Outdoor Egremont

Set right at the heart of the peaceful Western Lake District, the outdoor Egremont experience offers a refreshing change and the chance to discover a variety of new and unspoiled experiences found within easy distance of this small bustling market town.

Our developing leisure routes start in the heart of Egremont and lead from the town walk to offer different opportunities for enjoyment; walking, cycling and fishing trips.
Egremont is the nearest town to what television viewers have voted as‘Britain's favorite view that of Great Gable at the head of the Wasdale Valley
It is possible to take in the tranquil settings of wheelchair friendly Longlands Lake, Clintz Quarry , enjoy Hadrian's Cyclway or try the alternative start to the C2C route.

There are also five 'Do -in-a-day'' cycle rides that also take in areas in Cleator Moor.
A few minutes drive away brings the coast and nearby St Bees, the spectacular fells and scenery of Ennerdale or Eskdale and a little further the historical maritime Whitehaven or market town Cockermouth.
The area offers challenges satisfying different abilities from the experienced fell walker or rock climber to those seeking gentle, level walking or riding.
Picturesque views abound; the coast, lakes and countryside are all within a short distance.
Around the town there will be clearly marked points and information boards directing users on to the rural leisure routes and the start of the footpaths and cycle ways.
We have planned short walks or rides with the family in mind and longer ones into the surrounding countryside, towards the coast or the fells. There are links to the long distance routes such as the Coast to Coast footpath and the C2C cycle way. The Hadrian's Cycleway passes through Egremont and forms part of the network.

In the west minor roads provide links to St Bees and the small villages in the south west. Further information on the Coast to Coast footpath can be found here http://www.visitcumbria.com/awc2c.htm
Routes to the coast will connect to the Cumbria Coastal Way footpath.
Further information on the coastal way can be found at http://www.visitcumbria.com/wc/cumbriacoast-walk.htm and http://www.english-lakes.com/cumbria_coastal_way.htm
To the south a footpath follows the east bank of the river south to Thornhill and on to Beckermet. On a different route Hadrian's Cycleway also runs south to these villages and on to Sellafield.
To the east are hills and forest around Dent and Lowther Park and beyond the Lake District National Park. The south east offers shorter routes linking the town to outlying villages and the Florence Mine.

Northwards are amenities and wildlife at Longlands Lake, Clintz quarry and the river corridor.
An existing public footpath follows the west bank of the river up to Longlands Lake and Hadrian's Cycleway runs north to join the C2C cycleway at Moor Row.
