Friends of the Castle
The Friends of the Castle group in partnership with the Copeland Parks Department manage Egremont Castle and its grounds. English Heritage is the body responsible for any planning or legal matters pertaining to the castle.
The friends are proud to have received a Green Flag Award and a Green Heritage Site award.
The castle and grounds are well used by local schools and the Friends group being particularly interested in supporting educational projects are currently preparing an educational support pack.
Many horticultural features planted by local schools can be seen in the grounds including the woodland bulb garden and the superb floral displays which schools also designed.
Other features include perennial borders, woodland flora areas, shrub borders and a community sensory garden. The grounds are planted with a selection of trees, both indigenous and exotic of which some are now fully mature. Schoolchildren have also put up a number of bird, butterfly, bees and insect boxes to these trees to encourage greater wild life diversity.
Community involvement is at the heart of the Egremont castle and grounds and the friends group work hard to keep standards high and help promote interest and raise funds through various activities. They have an active events programme including Christmas firework displays, enactments, poetry readings, bands, choir and concerts.
