Egremont's attractions Main Street Egremont

This historic Norman market town boasts a wealth of Georgian architecture on its bustling Main Street .

The shops offer a range of good local produce and gifts. Spend some great days out in the surrounding countryside enjoying our new walking or cycling routes and discovering the superb rural features at nearby Clintz quarry, with its amazing orchids, or the peaceful surroundings of Longlands Lake. Come back to town for a late afternoon visit to the Egremont ice cream factory and evening tour of the local hostelries and eateries in town.  

Farmers MarketVisit the Farmers Market held in the Market Hall every third Friday of the month or the regular Friday outdoor market held on the Market Place. The area has comfortable hotel and bed and breakfast accommodation and  specialist cycling accommodation.Stroll around the Norman Castle and its grounds, illuminated at sunset  it will soon have its own event Pavillion. Our diary lists concerts and events organised by local groups taking place at the castle.

Torchlight parade

You will find Egremont a good place to visit at any time of the year but you could plan your stay to coincide with the historic Crab Fair, pipe smoking, greasy pole and gurning competitions in September or to experience the Torchlight Parade in November.Longlands Lake

For the cyclist, Egremont's location is ideal. On the route of the Hadrian's cycleway and now part of an alternative start (or finish) to the popular coast to coast route, Egremont is also proud to have a developing network of mountain biking routes.

Five minutes drive away is the lovely seaside resort of St. Bees with its views out to the Isle of Man, fifteen minutes in the opposite direction will bring you to tranquil Ennerdale and should you spend a day at one of the other summer festivals in the Western Lakes Egremont town makes a nice place to stay over after escaping the bustle of the crowds.
