Egremont has an abundance of fascinating historical features. Florence Mine which was the last deep Iron Ore mine in Western Europe.
The ancient Norman Castle illuminated at sunset is winner of the Green Heritage Site and Green Flag awards. The castle is home to the legend of the Horn of Egremont and has its history bound up with the De Lucy family.


Some good Georgian architecture is to be seen in the town which is home to the annual Crab Fair with its greasy pole, gurning , pipe smoking competitions and Cumberland wrestling.
SASRA, Friends of the Castle, and the Market Hall all organise regular events and Lowes Court Gallery, also home to the local Tourist Information Centre, holds a programme of exhibitions. Membership schemes exist for these organisations.

Approaching Egremont town the Gateways and community apple orchard will increasingly become a feature as the planting matures. Replanted in 2007 the future apples will be used in the Crab Fair where they are thrown to the crowd.
Town businesses offer visitors a pleasant shopping experience. Stroll around Main Street, North Road, Chapel Street, St Bridget's Lane and Wyndham Way. Calling at the Factory outlet, Ice cream factory or the monthly Farmers Market in the Market Hall.
Some specialist businesses, services and manufacturers are located on the Bridge End Industrial Estate on the edge of town. The town offers plenty of choice for food and drink including restaurants, cafes, takeaways, pubs, bars, farmers market café, bakers, confectioners, fish & chips . Many of them are signed up to our Fairtrade declaration and serve fair trade goods.

Outdoor Egremont activities include cycling, walking and fishing and our newly opened leisure routes. These routes will take visitors around the town walk, through town on the C72 Hadrian's Cyclway and alternative C2C start from St Bees, on past Clintz quarry renowned for its rare wild orchids, to Longlands Lake and to the C72 intersection with the C71, C2C cycle way for which Egremont and St Bees have just opened an alternative start to the route.

Egremont also makes and ideal base for day exploratory trips to other areas of the Western Lakes such as Uldale Valley, Dent Fell, St Bees, Whitehaven and where the public voted for ‘Britain's favorite view' that of Great Gable at the head of the Wasdale Valley.
Autumn and winter visitors can experience the Torchlight parade at the end of November and the Christmas Farmers Market in December.
Egremont has its own swimming pool and other leisure facilities around the town including numerous activity clubs and societies.
