The historic Norman market town of Egremont is at the heart of Cumbria's beautiful and peaceful Western Lake District at the foot of Uldale Valley and Dent Fell and close to the coast at St Bees.

In this surprising area Egremont is the nearest town to what television viewers have voted as‘Britain's favourite view' that of Great Gable at the head of the Wasdale Valley.
Egremont offers, enjoyable outdoor leisure activities, interesting local heritage, a well stocked market, shops and fantastic scenery to relax in.
In 2007, Egremont became a Fairtrade Town, to promote the use of Fairtrade marked products. The Fairtrade Campaign Group also works to promote local shopping and produce.

Invest Egremont The Egremont Regeneration Partnership is responsible for undertaking many improvement projects in the area. Current projects at the castle include a demountable pavilion for events and evening Illumination in the grounds. Both schemes are part of Egremont's regeneration strategy to display the castle as a central feature in the development of the area. In 2009 Creative Egrmeont has been awarded the Market Town Award for a cultural and environmental project in the Northwest. From public sculpture by Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane and the Folk Float, spent last summer on a tour of service looking at the regeneration of Kings Cross, to ambitious plans to create a digital arts hub at Florence Mine a forner haematite pit on the fringe of Egremont, follow this link to see what is happening. This Autumn will see the opening of Florence Mine, a new arts centre for West Cumbria growing out of the heritage centre in the former shower block. MayFest In Egremont Castle
Come and enjoy all the fantastic May Day fun in the grounds of Egremont's beautiful Norman Castle from 11.45 am on 3rd May


The site will benefit from up-lighters in the grounds and include an image projection onto the North Side of the main castle wall. These projections will act as a backdrop to events and productions in the pavilion..
